Antonov Design Bureau

One of the famous ex-Soviet aircraft design houses, Antonov is known for its cargo transport aircraft, which include some of the largest planes ever flown.  Oleg Antonov (1906-84) was a Russian engineer who began designing gliders in 1930 and worked for the Yakovlev concern during World War II, helping to refine the fighter designs of that firm.  His own design office was established in 1946 and soon relocated to Kiev, Ukraine, where it exists to this day, now a state-owned aircraft company.
