Avro

Brothers Alliot Verdon Roe (1877-1958) and Humphrey Verdon Roe (1878-1949) were British aviation pioneers who began designing, building and flying aircraft who, in 1910, founded A. V. Roe & Company, commonly known as Avro.  A dispute between the brothers led to Humphrey leaving the company in 1917, and his association with the early company is often forgotten.  Roe himself left the company in 1928 to found Saunders-Roe.  Avro produced military and civil aircraft of almost every category through 1963, when it was absorbed into Hawker Siddeley (which had actually owned it since 1935), itself later rolled up into British Aerospace.
