A vacant retail space at 285 Madison Avenue (corner of East 40th Street) in Manhattan currently contains an eye-catching display of twenty-six vintage Italian motorcycles by Ducati, Agusta and LaVerda. Installed by a collector who is a friend of the property owner, the exhibit goes by the name of “The Stuart Parr Collection: Art of the Italian Two Wheel” and public access will be afforded starting April 18. For now, you can look in the window.
I’m not very into the aesthetics of motorcycles. The format strikes me as allowing little scope for artistic expression. Still, these are nice bikes, and I’m given to understand that some of them are among the most collectible in the world. Definitely worth a look if you’re wandering around midtown.
