The Macchi M.39 was one in a series of racing floatplanes entered by Italy in the prestigious Schneider Cup races of the 1920s and 1930s. The first of the 5 M.39s flew July 6, 1926 and won the 1926 Schneider Cup race, held at Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Two original M.39s are preserved in the amazing collection of Macchi seaplanes at Italy’s air force museum near Rome. At least one static replica has been built and is displayed in the United States.
Planes of Fame built this static M.39 replica for its air racing display.
