John Thorp (1912-92) was an American aeronautical engineer who worked at Boeing and Lockheed. In 1963 he designed his most successful aircraft, the T-18, which became one of the most popular early metal homebuilt aircraft. Cheap, neat-looking and fast, these planes were built by amateurs from plans and kits. About 400 were eventually constructed and a few are still being built today.
Built in 1980, this nice T-18 was still flying and looking good 35 years later with a Texas owner.
